Pour Over

Pour Over is a manual coffee brewing method that involves pouring hot water over coffee grounds through a filter.

This results in a cleaner, more focused cup of coffee because the water only flows through the evenly distributed coffee grounds in the filter. Pour Over requires more time and effort than other brewing methods, but it is often considered to produce higher quality results.

Step by step

Prepare your equipment. Place the dripper on top of the server or mug. Rinse the paper filter with hot water to remove any paper taste. Discard the rinse water.

Grind your coffee beans. Grind 15 grams of coffee beans to a medium-coarse grind.

Heat your water to 93 degrees Celsius. This is the ideal temperature for brewing Pour Over coffee.

Add the ground coffee to the filter and place it in the dripper. Pour 30 grams of hot water over the grounds, ensuring they are all evenly saturated. Let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds. This allows the coffee to release carbon dioxide and degas, resulting in a more flavorful cup.

First pour. After the bloom, slowly pour 80 grams of hot water over the coffee in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards. Avoid pouring directly onto the filter. Aim to complete this pour in about 30 seconds.

Second pour. Wait for the water level to drop to about halfway down the dripper. Then, pour another 80 grams of hot water in the same circular motion. Aim to complete this pour in about 30 seconds.

Third pour. Once the water level has dropped again, pour the remaining 80 grams of hot water over the coffee. Continue using the circular motion, ensuring all the grounds are evenly saturated. Aim to complete this pour in about 30 seconds.

Final steps. The total brewing time should be around 2 – 3 minutes. Once all the water has passed through the coffee, remove the dripper and enjoy your delicious Pour Over coffee!
